Epicycles is developing and maintaining a remote GPS locater and accounting system for tracking devices installed in personal vehicles in the event of a safety or security breach. I have been part of the project from the initial concept proposal through design and implementation for the client. My role involves:

Projects Abroad Argentina
(2015)
I worked for a Law and Human Rights organisation in Argentina helping organise and carry out both legal and social cases.

The social side included preparing and leading curriculum based activities inside orphanages and a juvenile detention centre to better prepare young girls for adulthood.

The legal side involved translating documents and interviewing the homeless regarding their situation and devising plans to provide legal aid. Often these lengthy proceses required maintaining documentation for future volunteers to easily continue cases.

My main achievement was helping a homeless man gain access to his pension and acquire safe, long term accommodation.

Lifeline

Lifeline's aim is an Australia free of suicide and to aid individuals in crisis through their 24 hour telephone support line, web chat service and fundraising events.

Over the course of a year, Lifeline receives over 1 million calls with 3 500 volunteers working with people through crisis situations to strengthen the community. Volunteers are required to undergo an intensive mental health first aid training course, placement, probation period and professional development to transition into a volunteer role with Lifeline's Australia wide telephone support network.

The Leukaemia Foundation supports individuals diagnosed with blood cancer and their families. Their untiring vision to research, support and cure leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood related cancers is an inspiration that brings a community together easing the burdon of disease. The charity walk I participated in brought survivors, sufferers, carers, friends and family together in a physical show of the power of support and community action. By helping fundraise through the sale of symbolic lanterns at the event, it was evident the positive impact this event had over those who have survived and were still suffering from blood cancer.

Anglicare aims to strengthen communities by providing the framework and networks for individuals to better deal with periods of instability. The branch I volunteered with runs a high school program to help disengaging year 10 students find better ways to relate to their studies and provides real life examples applicable to future employment aspirations.

My presentation involved opening a discusion for the perceptions of women entering the workforce and the standards and expectations young women may experience. This included providing useful solutions for the students and encouraging confidence when applying for and starting employment or traineeships.
